Indigenous African Roots.
Born on a beautiful East African island, I was acquainted with the uses and benefits of coconut oil. Coconut was a staple in my ancestral lineage, passed down from generation to generation. The women in my community used it to grow healthy lush hair and moisturize their deeply-melanated skin.
a Mother’s Love.
My mother incorporated this indigenous African oil into my childhood hair routine. Her nurturing made my hair soft, strong, healthy and easy to manipulate. This practice became a means for me to celebrate our African roots and wear my 4c kinky hair with much confidence.
Miles Apart.
Upon moving to college in the United States I struggled with finding oils for my 4c natural hair, just like that from my ancestral home. I tried different products from mainstream beauty industry, which as expensive as they are, only proved to be watered-down versions of African indigenous oils. My hair became drier, brittle, hard to manipulate, and growth was stunted.
KiAsili is Born.
On a quest to restore my lush natural hair, I sought to go back to my roots. If our foremothers' hair flourished, why wouldn't mine? I researched and experimented various African indigenous oils on my stunted hair, which resulted in the KiAsili Hair Butter, an oil blend that revived and took my hair past shoulder length!

We partner with African moms who traditionally harvest and prepare our indigenous ingredients. Nothing beats mama’s love, so we personalize each ingredient with this motherly touch. Most importantly (and dear to our founder), since KiAsili began on the premises of indigenous coconut oil, we prepare ours using a special recipe handed down by our founder’s grandmother.
